Teaching full-time Monday through Thursday makes me appreciate Friday even more. This week in the photojournalism class, I required my students to create a Twitter account if they had not already done so. Only one student complained, saying Twitter is pointless and not going to lead anywhere, that the student wants to start a company and doesn’t need to connect with anyone to do that. The student was not comfortable using a real name, so I allowed the student to create a fictitious name if only to learn how to utilize the tool. I schooled them on the benefits of being on Twitter: finding jobs, sources for stories and quotes for interviews, links to articles of importance, connecting with role models and more. Then, I asked my followers to chime in:
