When I spoke with Malcolm Stewart last month, I asked about the meaning of his nickname, Mookie. He said he honestly had “no idea” where it came from. “It’s just something I picked up.” So, after Googling the word, I found a definition: To be soft towards someone or something that you care about.
It’s fitting because Malcolm is one of the most talked about young rookies on the professional supercross circuit, and not just because his big brother James was arrested in March for impersonating a police officer. Impressive in his own right, Malcolm stands quietly on his own. The 18-year-old Haines City native is fresh and easy going without any of the overblown ego that surrounds the moto industry. He is Mookie.
