It’s been more than a month since I’ve blogged, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working. I actually stare at a computer for most of the day now. Yes, I got a job at a company with REAL paychecks, drug tests and mileage sheets. I’m the new (my editor calls me, “Green”) reporter for a newspaper in Volusia County. Right now, I’m covering Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and Holly Hill, but that may soon change. I’m crossing my fingers for the New Smyrna Beach beat, if it ever comes available. I just love downtown NSB. Well, the job is intense, and as my dad says, “Cut your teeth, kid.” I sure am. Sometimes, I feel like the learning curve is too steep, but I’ve always loved climbing — I hated racing downhill — and I have the skills to succeed. I’m probably overpacked, actually. I think about things way too much. I’m actually here at my desk right now…it’s about 6 o’clock on a Friday. Who does that? But I had to get some blogging in before I went home for the weekend.

I have some really great news. I was recently offered the magazine editor/publisher contract for the FTR magazine, and I accepted! So, for the next six months, I’ll be trying to re-ignite the fire that was once FTR – remember the “Hot Notes” articles I started back in 2000? The organization has been in a slump since I left…haha…just kidding. But the organization has been going through some difficulties, and with me board, I’m positive I can help turn it around. Plus, remember all those skills I learned at Newhouse? At least it gives me a chance to be creative and design each issue. I’m stoked! I think it could be one of those things that just happened for a reason, and everybody will benefit! I can’t wait to hear what the FTR membership has to say when they see MY first issue. So, from now on, follow my new blog at http://floridatrailriders.wordpress.com/ since that’s where I’ll be spending all my spare time…haha…that’s a joke, too.
